Take-Two, during its fiscal Q1 2020 earnings revealed that Gearbox’s co-op shooter Borderlands 2 has sold 22 million copies worldwide on all platforms, in addition to the Borderlands franchise selling more than 48 million units in total. This includes lifetime sales on the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and maybe even the Vita.

As Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told GamesIndustry:

“I think [the sales boost] is a reflection of the fact that the Borderlands IP is stronger than ever, even though it’s been eight years since the last release. I think there’s a whole new generation of consumers who are super excited about Borderlands. That bodes well as we head into the September release. We’ll see how it does, but we feel really good.”

Borderlands 3, the third numbered entry in the series launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One September 13.
