Dark Light

Sony brought their A game this year. And showed how the 3rd and 4th year of a console is where it starts to pick its strides. The entirety of the Sony press conference this year was focussed on games (and VR). No new hardware release, no new updates, infact even the indies who normally get to be a part of the sizzle-reel were absent this time around. And yet, this might be one of the best conferences Sony has put together in recent memories (2nd only to the PS4 debut year).

But what makes it so great, you can check out the entire Sony press conference below and judge for yourself, or you can trust us and read on for (what we think) are the 5 biggest news coming out of Sony E3 2016 press conference.

The Sony E3 2016 press conference

Top 5 highlights from the Sony E3 2016 press conference

  1. God Of War

So yes, Kratos is back. Sony opened their conference with the new God Of War. Details have flowed abundant over the internet ever since that trailer showed up on the big screen. Yes, he is indeed the same Kratos who killed the Greek gods. Yes it’s his own son, he is hunting with. No, you won’t be playing as his son in any part of the game. No the game is not open world. Yes that is a movable third person camera this time. And yes, you did see a dragon at the end of it all.

It is a new beginning for Kratos. Living as a man, outside the shadow of the gods, he seeks solitude in the unfamiliar lands of the Norse mythology. With new puprpose and his son son at his side, Kratos must fight for survival as powerful forces threaten to disrupt the new life he has created.

In his interview with IGN, Cory Barlog, the game’s creative director said, “Kratos believes that being a god is a disease, and that rage is a side effect of that disease, and he’s terrified that he’s passed it on to his son.”. Which explains the muted down tone of the trailer. But for all of you who think it was not God Of War wordly enough, Balrog has that covered too. The reason they didn’t focus the E3 demo on a huge, spectacle-filled set piece is that it’s a given that the game will have those. Barlog and Sony Santa Monica have mastered those moments, so with this demo, they wanted to surprise fans and non-fans of the series with the unexpected.

With Uncharted 4 last year, and God Of War 4 this year, Sony is really getting into its straps.

2. The Last Guardian

It feels like every time I write about the Last Guardian, is the last time I want to write about it. And yet here we are. There are thousands if not millions of gamers who are totally stoked about this spiritual sequel to The Shadow Of The Colossus, but I am not one of them. What I am impressed by though, is how that game has survived for 2 entire generations of consoles; and that it’s finally coming out. The game has refused to die, and I believe it has a lot to do with people’s love invested in it.

Just for that simple reason, I think Sony deserves some applause even if The Last Guardian walks the way of Duke Nukem.

3. Detroit : Become Human

From the makers of Heavy Rain, comes another interactive movie. That’s how a cynic will call it. But any optimist who looks at that trailer which involves 1 android trying to save a human girl from another android., it just might look like the most intriguing trailer of them all. The game would give gamers a chance to solve a crime, the best way they could, which would influence the end game of each case (the one in the trailer has 6 different endings possible).

And with the kind of pedigree that Qunatic Dream offer when it comes to narration and story-driven games, I think we should all watch out for Detroit: Become Human.

4. Death Stranding

1 name. HIDEO KOJIMA. 2 more words. IS BACK. While a new Metal Gear Solid, or even a new P.T. is no where near the horizon, Kojima is promising to keep atleast one part of the P.T. dream alive by partnering up with Norman Reedus for his next game ‘Death Stranding’. IVG (Indian Video Gamer) did the best job of describing the trailer so I am just gonna let them.

The game will likely be a mystery for a long while, because that’s all he revealed at E3. But, 3 words. UP YOURS KONAMI.

5. Spiderman PS4

I can say with confidence that at least one author on our own site is very butt-hurt about Spiderman becoming exclusive to PS4. Its a riot to see them go at it, while I find myself grinning every time anyone mentions the new Spiderman PS4.

Insomniac are the prodigal son who have come back from the wilderness back to the platform they know best, and Spiderman might be the start of something new for all the Marvel games who seem to get the best success in Toys to Life series.

Spiderman makes the list for its piss-off factor, and also because of its incredibly short-term title, “Spiderman PS4”

Well that’s our list of the top 5 from the Sony E3 2016 press conference. What’s yours? Would you like to add anything or remove something? Which one do you think should rank higher. Do you think Sony has won the E3 war this year. If not, why not? Let us know all and more in the comments. Also that Kratos beard just went full North huh!
