Dark Light

SHIFT UP is back, and they came to Summer Game Fest 2026 swinging. Hot on the heels of the original Stellar Blade‘s success, the Korean developer has officially pulled the curtain on Stellar Blade: BLOOD RAIN — the direct sequel to one of PlayStation’s most visually striking action titles in recent memory.

The announcement arrived with an in-engine trailer that immediately set the internet ablaze, confirming a new protagonist, a rain-soaked new world, and a combat style that looks meaningfully distinct from what fans experienced with Eve. SHIFT UP also dropped a significant piece of business news alongside the reveal: the studio will be self-publishing Blood Rain, parting ways with Sony Interactive Entertainment, which handled publishing duties on the first game.

A New Protagonist Steps Into the Rain

Say goodbye to Eve — or at least, step aside for now. Blood Rain introduces Evie, a brand-new protagonist whose name is clearly a nod to her predecessor but whose fighting style is something else entirely. Where Eve cut through Naytiba with blade precision, Evie appears to favour gauntlet-based brawling. This close-range, brutally physical combat approach brings a raw, kinetic energy to the screen.

The enemy designs in Blood Rain are a notable departure from the Souls-inspired foes of the original. These creatures feel more visceral, more biological, more wrong — and the trailer wastes no time showing exactly how they come to be that way. It is deeply unsettling in the best possible way.

The world itself carries a cyberpunk-adjacent aesthetic, with dense urban environments and a persistent rain that gives the whole thing a brooding, apocalyptic atmosphere. SHIFT UP appears to be pushing its world-building ambitions significantly further than the first game.

The trailer was captured entirely in-game on PC, with SHIFT UP noting that footage comes from a game still early in development and is subject to change. No platforms have been confirmed. No release date has been set. Shift Up says it will share more details “when it’s ready.”
