So seems like Sony is trying to truly step up its game with the next gen PlayStation 5. With many exciting details like real-time ray-tracing and backwards compatibility for all PS4 titles already confirmed, PS5 is really shaping up to be a true successor Sony’s current gen console. But recently another exciting feature seems to have been patented by Sony named PlayStation Assist.

Thanks to @ZhugeEX for digging this new leak out. So apparently, PlayStation Assist is for PS5 what Google Assistant is for Google Stadia. But the Sony’s Assist tech seems to be implemented directly in the games unlike Google’s which only searches about the user’s query and returns results. In the below image, the Assistant actually seems to show all nearby locations to purchase a Steel Sword in Skyrim, and this couldn’t be done without the game telling Sony “the player is currently at XYZ” so that it can search the nearest places. So unlike Google Assistant it’ll require developers to implement the feature in their games.

We still don’t know if this’ll actually make it to the console or not, as it’s only a patent as of now. It could also just be a sort of companion for mobile devices, though being a feature on the console itself would make more sense.

However not everyone seems to be happy with the news. Some people over ResetEra don’t want Sony spying on them and others just simply think of it as useless, which it may actually not be so as it could make games more easily accessible. The game can mark a location on the GPS just by you telling it to or it can tell you how to get that next trophy right by asking PS Assist.
