Colin McComb is a well-known name in the field of tabletop and video role playing games. His resume is filled with some awesome feats including designing the Planescape setting for TSR, designing parts of Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment and serving as the creative lead for Torment: Tides of Numenera.
It just so happens that after leaving InXile, Colin has joined the indie studio Drop Bear Bytes as a creative lead for their upcoming post-apocalyptic RPG Broken Roads.
“When Craig (Ritchie, Founder & Game Director of Drop Bear Bytes) told me what he wanted to do with the setting and the philosophy of Broken Roads, I had to fight him because I was jealous of his idea. But then he let me join the team, so that was cool,” says McComb.
Blending together established as well as all-new role-playing elements into a traditional isometric RPG, Broken Roads will see players travelling through authentic Australian locations in a desolated future. The game also presents players with an original morality system: the Moral Compass. This novel design sees dialogue options and questing decisions influence, and be influenced by, a character’s philosophical leaning. Player decisions will shift a character’s philosophical leaning and alter their future choices, as well as open up Moral Traits which can help or hinder.
Broken Roads is scheduled for release in 2021.
