Miyamoto Musashi, a warrior who set out for Kyoto to master the ‘Way of the Sword’ and become the unrivalled swordsman in the world.
Along his journey, Musashi is attacked by the monstrous Genma. In the midst of the assault, he comes into possession of the ‘Oni Gauntlet,’ granting him a mighty demonic power capable of opposing the Genma.
Yet to Musashi, who seeks to carve his path along the Way of the Sword through his own strength, such power is something to be despised.
How can he sever his ties with the Oni Gauntlet? Set in early Edo-period Kyoto, Musashi’s pathof the sword begins to stray into a blood-soaked struggle.

Kiyomizu-dera
A famous Kyoto landmark with its main hall and stage perched atop a cliff.
However, it has been transformed by the Genma’s invasion and the spreading Malice.
Oni Refuge
Guided by the power of the Oni, Musashi arrives at this otherworldly space.
It appears to be a place related to the Oni clan.
Underground Laboratory
A Dōkyō laboratory hidden beneath Kyoto.
Materials and test subjects for creating Genma are carelessly left about, and numerous traps are set to toy with any intruders.
The Power of the Oni
The Power of the Oni is indispensable in the battle with the Genma. Consume the souls of the enemy to gain great power and transcend human limits. This is the way of the Onimusha.
Soul Absorption
The Oni Gauntlet that Musashi has come to possess can absorb souls released by defeated enemies. Each type of soul grants a different effect. Observing the state of the battle and deciding when to absorb souls adds another layer to the combat.

Yellow Souls: Restore health
Blue Souls: Fills the Oni Power gauge that is used for special Oni Armament abilities
Red Souls: Expended to enhance equipment and to learn or enhance basic and special abilities
Oni Abilities
Musashi will gradually awaken various hidden Oni abilities. These abilities can give him an advantage in combat, as well as open new avenues for exploration around the capital.
Oni Vision
A power that allows one to see that which is usually hidden to human eyes. Particularly useful for revealing hidden Genma obstacles, this is an essential ability for exploration and puzzles.
Oni Armaments, Abilities Fueled by Oni Power
Special armaments forged by the Oni, Oni Armaments can be summoned and used by expending Oni Power gained from blue souls. Giving Musashi access to unique actions not possible with his standard swords, these abilities can quickly turn the tide of battle in his favor.
The Two Celestials
Issues a flurry of attacks with a pair of deadly blades. Enemies hit by this ability will release yellow souls, which
Musashi can absorb to recover health, making this a great means of dealing damage and increasing survivability.
Earth-Shakers
Hammers with the power to rend the very fabric of space. They can tear through enemy stamina, shields and armor alike. Charging up the attack makes them hit even harder.
Wind-Whipper
Twirl a double-bladed naginata overhead that stirs up a whirlwind that can hit enemies over a wide area. Enemies within range will be sent flying, and any incoming ranged attacks that enter the vortex will be negated.
If the whirlwind comes into contact with a flame it will transform into a scorching cyclone.
Techniques that Augment the Swordplay Action
Mix intuitive core actions, like swift One-Handed Attacks and slower but more powerful Two-Handed Attacks, with a range of sword techniques, and moves that make use of the environment to fight the way you want.
Parry
Redirect enemy attacks by blocking at just the right moment. The unbalanced opponent will be left open to attack briefly, and they can even be sent crashing into walls or other enemies.
Making an enemy collide with something will greatly reduce their stamina, pushing them closer to exhaustion.
Blazing State
Parrying successfully enough times will trigger this state, which increases the power of Musashi’s blade and generates more blue souls when landing attacks.
Deflect
Repel an enemy’s attack off your blade. The impact will set the enemy off-balance and deplete a large portion of their stamina in the process. This technique can also be used to send ranged attacks flying back at the enemies that launched them.
Using Environmental Objects
When faced with a fierce fight one should make use of every tool at their disposal. Use tatami mats as shields to stop attacks or run carts into enemies. Playing dirty may well be the difference between certain death and living to fight another day.
Issen, the Essence of Onimusha Swordplay
A classic Onimusha technique, the Issen is a devastating critical counter-blow unleashed by attacking with perfect timing.
Issen
Performed by pressing an attack button the moment before an enemy attack makes contact with Musashi, it is difficult to pull off. Those who succeed will be rewarded with high damage dealt to the enemy and more souls released.
Chain Issen
It is possible to unleash a series of Issen attacks to quickly dispatch multiple enemies. Pressing an attack button just as an Issen attack lands starts a Chain Issen.
Break Issen
By whittling down the enemy’s stamina it is possible to push them into exhaustion. Doing so will open them up to a potent Break Issen. If planned carefully, it is possible to Break Issen multiple enemies in quick succession.
Against bosses, you will be able to choose which part of them you wish to attack with the technique. Different body parts yield different benefits, so one can choose according to the current state of battle.
