Publisher Sony Interactive and Developer Kojima Productions has dropped a new character trailer for upcoming game Death Stranding. The two-minute video introduces us to the character of Heartman, portrayed by Nicolas Winding Refn. The clip was previously shown to audiences at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con event on July 20.
As you may guess by his name, his heart stops every 21 minutes, allowing him to spend three minutes in “the world of the dead” before he’s shocked back to life… for another 21 minutes.
Heartman is a member of the research team at BRIDGES, who the player character Sam also works for. The concept of a man forced to live like this in brutal 21-minute cycles is certainly different and fascinating, so it’ll be interesting to see what role Heartman has in the story.
HEARTMAN cutscene that I introduced at SDCC is out now. HEARTMAN is a member of BRIDGES. His heart stops every 21 mins, spends his time in the world of the dead for 3 mins and comes back by AED. 60 times/day. Thanks to my best friend & filmmaker Nicolas W Refn for his appearance! https://t.co/VyHPy29Fcs pic.twitter.com/W7jNPdl8wx
