Dark Light

Morbid Metal might be one of the games we dreamt about playing in the future, and it is finally happening. The rush you felt while playing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is back once again, but it looks much better, tighter and open. The demo is live right now with the early access slated for August 2025, as mentioned inside the game itself. But truly, you can’t miss the demo itself; it’s worth putting those 20 minutes in.

Morbid Metal, at a glance, feels like what if Black Myth Wukong and Cyberpunk 2077 came for a smaller-scale rogue-lite game? The characters are heavily sci-fi and superfast. The design is very modern and does not hold back in going all in with the graphical prowess. The game’s core is about switching characters on the go, and in the demo, you can play with two characters who are polar opposites in their playstyles and switch with a tap of a button. To be honest, there is barely anything to criticise in the demo right now.

While visually the game definitely excels, the core combat is also very well designed. Just like any roguelite game these days, you are challenged with a quick and overwhelming wave of enemies, but the counter/parry damage in this game is exceptional. The does feel very easy at the moment, but it might be better as it is. Instead of having tanky enemies, it might be more fun to tackle hordes and varieties of enemies.

The abilities in this game are unique to the character itself, making it much easier to plan and use both the unlocked characters as I want. The abilities assist the playstyles, allowing you to toss enemies up the air, and finish them off at a distance. And once you’re ready, pull up the ultimate to finish the last man standing with style.

As for the exploration, there are already multiple secret areas in the game that award you more loot or perk cards, which benefit you a lot in the long term. The training room already shows three different god-like structures waiting to give you more permanent upgrades and power-ups. The direction of the game is truly excellent, and we hope the first release of the game carries all of the features shown in the demo.

We might have seen just a few minutes of the game, but we desperately want more and can’t wait for the official early access or release. But until then, the demo is infinitely replayable, and you should check it out today.
