Life Is Strange was a huge hit when its first episode hit the gaming platforms three years ago. It received critical acclaim upon its release from fans as well as critics who applauded the game for its story, characters and what not. Given the popularity of the game (a TV series is also in works) a sequel was due to happen.

So, in the course of Gamescom 2018, publisher Square Enix and developer DONTNOD officially revealed the debut trailer for Life Is Strange 2. It tells the story of two brothers, Sean and Daniel, who have run away from their home after a tragic life-changing event.

Here’s an overview of the game (via Square Enix):

Discover a story of two brothers, 16-year old Sean and 9-year old Daniel Diaz, who have to flee their home in suburban Seattle after a tragic event that changes their lives forever. On the run from the police, Sean makes a difficult decision; to take his brother and go to Puerto Lobos, Mexico. Life on the road is dangerous and the brothers will be faced with tough decisions as they bravely undertake a journey that will test the bonds of brotherhood.

Everything is new in LIFE IS STRANGE 2 – a new cast of characters, multiple new settings, new gameplay features and a brand new power for players to discover, making Life is Strange 2 the most ambitious project in series history.

Watch the debut trailer below:

Life Is Strange 2 will draw its focus on “brotherhood”, and it seems like it is going to be a co-op affair throughout the game, as DONTNOD explains: “As with previous games in the series, Life is Strange 2 will tackle a host of issues that all of us can identify with and that will cause moral dilemmas and require much soul searching. These themes come together most powerfully in the way Daniel will develop depending on the lessons you teach him and the role model you decide to be”.

Additionally, along with the new set of characters and settings, Life is Strange 2 will also feature a new power, which DONTNOD is keeping under the dark for now. Life is Strange 2 is also DONTNOD’s most ambitious game yet with “the highest production values in the game series to date”.
