A brand-new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been released, following up on the announcement of Onimusha: Way of the Sword in December last year.
This entry in the swordplay action series is set in an early Edo period Kyoto, twisted by the influence of the encroaching Malice. The new trailer gives us a glimpse of this title’s expressive protagonist as he fights for his very life.
Along with a preview of the protagonist, we also introduce some of the enemies he will face and how he will deal with them.
Introducing the Protagonist: Legendary Swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi (Voice: Kenichiro Thomson)
The Onimusha series is known for casting Samanosuke Akechi and Jubei Yagyu, widely known in Japan, as protagonists. This time, the story will follow a legend known throughout the world. Miyamoto Musashi has been depicted in numerous forms throughout time, but Capcom is sure to put their own spin on the legendary swordsman that you won’t want to miss.
Toshiro Mifune Stars as Musashi’s Face Model
The protagonist of this game is a fierce young samurai, constantly moving from one bloody and gritty fight to the next. To cement this image of a striking samurai, Capcom has turned to none other than the late, iconic Japanese samurai movie legend Toshiro Mifune to star as the face model for this rendition of Miyamoto Musashi.
Bloody Swordplay Action
The new trailer showed off some of the swordplay action you can expect to see in the battles that will unfold between the protagonist and the Genma. You’ll definitely want to check out Byakue, a large and powerful enemy that wields a giant axe to great destructive effect.
What can be gained by clashing blades…?
Make use of items in the environment, like kimono and tatami mats, to gain the upper hand in combat.
Special techniques also on hand…!? Expect to see some flashy techniques, courtesy of special weapons.
Genma, a Threat to Humanity
Usually found dwelling in the lowest depths of hell, the Malice enveloping Kyoto has brought these fiends into the world of the living. Their ceaseless atrocities have plunged the capital into a state of dread and panic.
Hitotsume Gasa
Capable of wielding swords, bows, and shields, these Genma tend to attack in groups. They are driven purely by their basal urges to kill and devour people.
Byakue
An unfathomably strong Genma, is seen giving Musashi plenty of trouble in the trailer. What was that ominous thing suspended in the air that it climbed out of…?
*All media depicts a game still in development.
