Dark Light

Things are looking quite ‘super’ for Indus, the aptly named made-in-India battle royale in development over at Super Gaming for PC, consoles and mobile. In today’s episode of Inside Indus developer diary, CEO of Super Gaming- Roby John and writers Rishi Alwani and Ankush explain what ‘Indo-Futurism’ actually means. But that’s not all. Keen-eyed gamers can spot a few seconds worth of early gameplay footage from the game throughout the dev diary.

As you might have guessed, a fictional version of the fascinating yet mysterious Indus Valley Civilization lies at the centre of the game. Indus takes place in a world where instead of being lost to time, the Indus Valley Civilization became so advanced that it apparently “flew off to a distant galaxy” and was discovered by the players in the year 2500. In the words of Ankush, “Indo-Futurism is about showing an optimistic vision of India in the future- what could have been, also what can be”. That indeed sounds optimistic all right.

Ankush goes on further to explain what ‘Indo-Futurism’ means for proper Indian representation in the video game space. The team also aims to make a mark in the Indian science fiction genre which is more or less infantile at the moment. However, as Rishi rightly points out, it’s important to know that Indus is a game first and foremost, with the rich, colourful and diverse lore giving you a reason to care about the world and the characters that inhabit it.

Wew…Indus is surely shaping up to be an ambitious experience from what we’ve seen so far. But I’m sure you’d rather watch the dev diary in its entirety rather than read me paraphrase it.
