Dark Light

The fallen leaves tell a story, of how a FromSoftware game bagged away the GOTY Award at the Japan Games Awards, a show taking place as part of Tokyo Game Show 2022. Rise, tarnished, as this might as well be the first of many that Elden Ring will likely win considering the breath of fresh air it blew into open world games. Seven months since release, and we still find people talking online about their builds, sharing their fanarts and memes. Heck even now data miners are excavating new hidden content and lore within the game’s codes… including rumors of a DLC!

Since upcoming games like Tears of Kingdom and Starfield have been pushed to 2023, the only worthy competition in Elden Ring’s path is God of War: Ragnarök which blew away fans with a brand-new story trailer. It might as well be a real Ragnarök when these two behemoths pit on the world stage. However, the fate of GOTY 2022 may already be decided considering the stellar praises that Elden Ring received from critics and players alike regarding the massive open world, the amount of gameplay freedom it offered, and the intricate immersive lore weaved by the series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin. And all these while Elden Ring being FromSoftware’s first venture into a true open world title.

Three awards were collected today, the Grand Award and Award for Excellence being bagged by Elden Ring and Miyazaki himself receiving the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award for contributions “to the development of the Japanese home video game industry.”
