If you’re the type of Call of Duty player who jumps into the campaign before touching multiplayer, Activision has some good news.

Modern Warfare 4 will once again offer Campaign Early Access, giving players who digitally pre-order the game a chance to start the story a week before launch. The campaign becomes available on October 16, while the full game launches worldwide on October 23.

This isn’t the first time Call of Duty has used early campaign access as a pre-order incentive, but it’s quickly becoming one of the more appealing bonuses. Unlike cosmetic rewards that many players forget about after a few matches, getting early access to the story lets fans experience a major part of the game before spoilers begin flooding social media.

According to Activision, anyone who purchases a digital version of Modern Warfare 4, including both the Standard and Vault Editions, will be eligible for the early access period.

What makes this year’s campaign particularly interesting is its setting. Modern Warfare 4 shifts the action to the Korean Peninsula, where players step into the boots of Private Park, a South Korean soldier caught in a conflict with global consequences. While the series is introducing new faces, longtime fans can also expect familiar characters to return as the Modern Warfare storyline continues.

The announcement suggests that Infinity Ward is aiming for a more personal story while still delivering the large-scale military action the franchise is known for. That’s a difficult balance to strike, but it’s also where some of the best Modern Warfare campaigns have succeeded in the past.

For players who mainly buy Call of Duty for multiplayer, Campaign Early Access may not be a deciding factor. But for those who enjoy working through the story first, it’s a chance to spend several days with the campaign before the wider community gets access.

With launch day set for October 23, the early access period effectively turns October 16 into the real starting date for many Call of Duty fans. If the campaign delivers on its promise of a globe-spanning conflict and high-stakes storytelling, those extra seven days could be enough to make the wait worthwhile.

Whether you’re returning for the next chapter of the Modern Warfare saga or simply looking to avoid launch-week spoilers, Campaign Early Access remains one of the more meaningful pre-order bonuses Activision has offered in recent years.
