Borderlands could be coming to the silver screen very soon. Director Eli Roth, famous for movies such as Cabin Fever and Hostel has confirmed that he would be working on a Borderlands movie next. Eli made the announcement on his Twitter page, where he thanked Gearbox and Lionsgate for becoming/joining the Borderland family.

Later the news was confirmed by a press release in Deadline where Roth said he looks forward to “bringing [his] own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game.” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Nathan Kahane elaborated that “with Eli’s vision and Craig’s screenplay, we believe we have cracked the code on bringing the anarchic world of Borderlands to the big screen in a big way that will be a fresh, compelling and cinematic event for moviegoers and fans of the game.” Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford is also an executive producer on the film, and Roth calls him and others at Gearbox “incredibly supportive of my ideas.”

Eli Roth will join the Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin and producers Avi and Ari Arad in recreating the Mad Max-esque world of Borderlands for the big screen. While the Borderlands franchise has thrived as an open-world first-person shooter, the point and clicks adventure game, Tale From The Borderlands has proven that it’s not confined to one genre.

It’s currently unclear if the Borderlands movie will re-tell the tale from one of the Borderlands games, or tell a different story from the world of Pandora.
