Battlefield 1 is one of the most anticipated games of this year and will be in stores this October 21st. The official system requirements of the game have been revealed. Here they are:

MINIMUM SPECS

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
  • Processor (AMD): AMD FX-6350
  • Processor (Intel): Core i5 6600K
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ HD 7850 2GB
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce® GTX 660 2GB
  • DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
  • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
  • Hard-drive space: 50GB

Well it was already obvious that Battlefield of all games will be requiring a beefy PC. I’m actually surprised at the overall minimum system requirements. The first thought that crossed my mind was the i5-6600K processor and damn, that is one powerful processor and they are suggesting it’s unlocked version. Makes me wonder what is so processor intensive about the game. Coming to other requirements was not surprising considering this gen, the staple GPU for all games has been the GTX 660 and 8 GB RAM. Talking about not meeting the requirements, if you do have an older i5 like the 2500 or 4440 or something similar, I think the game would run just fine. I do think that if you have an i3, you might face a lot of frame rate drops in CPU intensive sections. As for the GPU, if you are playing at 900p or 720p, cards such as AMD 7770 etc should do the trick for med-high settings and 35-45 fps (This is speculation), though you may not be able to achieve a stable 60 FPS on such a low config. From the more recent GPUs, a GTX 950 or GTX 750 Ti should give you a decent performance at 1080p, but will be a blast on 900p. Cards such as the GT X40 series will probably be useless for the multiplayer component (This is assuming that the game has a single player one).

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
  • Processor (AMD): AMD FX 8350 Wraith
  • Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 4790 or equivalent
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ RX 480 4GB
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1060 3GB
  • DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
  • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
  • Available Disk Space: 50GB

As for the recommended specs, the CPU requirement is equally bewildering. An i7-4790? That is quite some high end stuff and considering that the GPU requirement is GTX 1060, 3GB version at that (Which theoretically performs 10-15% less than it’s 6 GB version), this has left me rather confused. I don’t understand what is so CPU intensive that you would need at i7-4790 for such a game. It has pretty much established by tech experts that an i7 is simply not needed for gaming at 1080p (I am supposing 1080p gaming because the GTX 1060 will simply not be able to pull of a 2K Ultra 60 FPS). But if this is the requirement, I think that any i7 from recent iterations will do the trick. AS for the other requirements, again, they are pretty basic, in fact the GPU requirements are not as high as I expected, a GTX 1060 3 GB/RX 480 4 GB is surprisingly low for recommended settings in today’s standards. But well that is good for the users and considering the way it looks, I think that the game is very optimized to say the least. Other than that the requirements are just fine for all modern games. 50 GB -_-.
