Yeah, you read that right. ATLUS, the developer renowned for the critically acclaimed Shin Megami Tensei franchise of RPGs has just released a non-linear, 2D side-scroller spin-off on PC, that’s in the vein of Nintendo’s Metroid and Konami’s Castlevania franchises. Called Sjin Megami Tensei: Synchronicity Prologue, it’s free to download but unfortunately is in Japanese only.
Originally featured as a supposed joke at the end of a trailer released for the upcoming dungeon crawler for 3DS, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (a remake of the Nintendo DS game, Strange Journey), it turns out to be the real deal. The game features Jack Frost (ATLUS’ equivalent of Pikachu – a popular mascot loved by everyone) partnering up with Pyro Jack – another creature from the dozens of monsters in the SMT franchise – to adventure through various pixel-style locales from Strange Journey. The game can be downloaded from ATLUS’ website in case you’re itching to try it out. It’s available till December 24th.
In case you’ve ever been curious, we took great pains to recount the history of the entire franchise for our readers’ amusement. Do take a look.
