SEGA, the publishing company behind Alien Isolation, today announced its DLC plans for the latest survival horror game. DLC for the game will revolve around a game mode known as the Survivor Mode, in which the player will be put in different maps/environments along with a  Xenomorph (The alien in Alien:Isolation). They must use a limited amount of resources to complete objectives and exit the map while avoiding the alien.

The game itself will come with a single map for the game mode, known as ‘BASEMENT’. With periodic DLC adding more maps to the mode over the course of 6 months. The first Survivor Mode DLC pack will arrive on October 28th with three maps and a new playable character. Sega will release four other DLC packs with new maps and characters by March 2015.

According to GameStop, all five Survivor Mode add-ons can be purchased at once with the Season Pass, priced at $30. This is apparently 25% cheaper than buying each Survivor Mode pack individually.

SEGA is also offering pre-order bonus DLC for Alien: Isolation, in which players control Ellen Ripley (the protagonist of the original Alien movie) and try to escape the Xenomorph who has taken over their ship. Though, I think such mission based DLC would later be released to the general public as well.

After the debacle, that Aliens: Colonial Marines was, Isolation really looks as if it can bring back the survivor horror feel that has been missing from the genre for some time. Previews by IGN and other gaming websites have all been encouraging, and the recent trailers for Isolation are sometimes down right scary. If SEGA play their cards right, not only could they have a hit game on their hands, they could also end up reviving an aging Alien franchise.
