Was the choice to stay further the ideal one?
Dissolution of the Silent Union is a new indie visual novel that understands the power of the incomplete. Released on 28 July, 2026, by the small Turkish studio Umigame, it drops you into the dissolving yet yearning relationship between two girls inside an abandoned high school on what feels like the last day of everything.

A Bond on the Edge of Collapse
The premise is deceptively simple. You play alongside Vera through the quiet corridors of a school that no longer feels or functions as it should. The title of the game, “Silent Union,” refers to the deep, often unspoken bond between Vera and another girl who she says to be her best friend. The main premise of the game is about watching that bond fray under the pressure of time, distance, and something more uncanny that has settled into both of their lives. One can describe it as a liminal-space story of a girl who wishes to be whole again but canʼt due to her feelings and lingering memories of the past.

The Visual Mesh of Dialogues
The gameplay itself is meant to be short and made to be able to finish it in one sitting, but this isn’t a limitation at all, as it uses that short span of time to add to its strength by its engaging storylines. Similar to a lot of visual novels, it is a point-and-click game with occasional pop-ups that give us choices to make. The game provides multiple routes one can take, each leading to a certain ending, but it makes you explore a new route after each playthrough to make us understand more about the characters and the story that it sings to us through pictures and thoughts. It is only after every route is explored that one can call it a casual full walkthrough. It is nevertheless not boring or repetitive, so it is actually replayable.

A Collage of Unease
From a visual standpoint, the game is an argument to be made. It forwardly uses anime line works, pixel elements, and brutalist architecture photography along with occasional real-life footage to form a surreal collage. While this may sound very chaotic in text, it is quite coherent and very well organized, so it is very pleasing to look at. The result lies somewhere between liminal photography and the dreamy logic of some experimental anime. School corridors are both unpatched and eerie.
Faces and figures have a softness from time to time, which allows glitches and other photographic intrusions to appear occasionally. This aesthetic isn’t just a decoration, but it is the core of the game that makes you feel something in your chest.

The Distressful Melancholy
The mood of the game is reinforced by both good music and voice acting. A calm, accented narration is always the foundation for a great experience in many visual novels, and Dissolution of the Silent Union doesnʼt disappoint in that regard. It is very calm and soothing and not screaming at your face, but it rather reflects the harmony with Vera’s inner qualities. The music by Murat Önder is also very delicate and persuasive, switching between gloomy sadness and peaceful vibrations here and there. The gentle sounds of the empty rooms contribute quite a lot to the atmospheric lift.

Real Talk
Within its own limits, Dissolution of the Silent Union achieves success. The short story, with thoughtful crafting, uses the interactive elements of the game to convey a gradual dissolvement of a friendship that wishes to be left unchecked. The liminal setting contrasting with the gloomy yet soothing music makes the atmosphere feel like a knife that gradually chips away a part of you.
