One of the last original projects shaped by legendary art director Viktor Antonov has finally been revealed. Publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment have announced Guns of Eschaton, a first-person shooter that mixes Souls-like combat with a supernatural take on the American frontier. While the gameplay borrows elements from modern action RPGs, the game’s biggest draw may be the creative legacy behind it.

Antonov, who passed away earlier this year, is best known for defining the visual identity of Half-Life 2 and later Dishonored. According to the studio, Guns of Eschaton is the final original universe he helped create before his death.

Set in a dying version of 19th-century America, the game swaps traditional Western shootouts for slower, more deliberate encounters where every bullet matters. Players are encouraged to study enemies before engaging, using a Codex system to uncover weaknesses instead of relying on brute force. Ammunition is scarce, parries are just as important as marksmanship, and a poorly planned fight can quickly spiral out of control.

Eschatology Entertainment says the experience is designed around preparation rather than speed. Firearms, occult abilities, specialized ammunition, armor, talismans, and consumables can all be combined to create different character builds, giving players multiple ways to approach combat.

The world itself is equally unusual. Rather than recreating the Old West, Guns of Eschaton imagines an America on the brink of collapse, blending frontier towns, historical figures, and supernatural horror into what the studio calls an occult apocalypse.

“We are incredibly honoured to be revealing Guns of Eschaton, the final project shaped by the extraordinary vision of Viktor Antonov,” Studio Head Fuad Kuliev said in the announcement. “Viktor’s imagination and creative legacy have been a constant source of inspiration throughout development.”

Although the game can be played entirely solo, Eschatology Entertainment has confirmed full co-op support, allowing players to experience the campaign together without sacrificing progression.

No release date has been announced, but the reveal immediately puts Guns of Eschaton on the radar for fans of challenging action games. Between its unusual setting and Antonov’s unmistakable creative influence, it’s already shaping up to be one of the more intriguing new IPs announced this year.
