Activision’s Iron Galaxy is developing native PlayStation Ports in partnership with Treyarch

In an official post on X.com, Treyarch has confirmed that Iron Galaxy, one of its partner studios at Activision, is working on the native ports of the critically acclaimed Call of Duty titles – Black Ops 1 & 2 in conjunction with them.

While these titles will not feature any visual enhancements, they will include all content from the original PS3 port, including Multiplayer and Zombies mode. The infamous Emblem Creator will also seemingly make a return. The re-releases are expected to feature dedicated, unhacked servers to resolve the online matchmaking and hacking issues that plagued the original PS3 version.

The surprise announcement has sparked a lot of curiosity. These ports are targeting PlayStation 4 and 5, as the original versions already work perfectly on both current and last-gen Xbox consoles, as well as on PC. It’s still unclear if PlayStation 5 will get a 120 fps mode, but if not, it could be a big letdown—similar to Red Dead Redemption’s PS4 port, which launched locked at 30 fps.

Besides the release window of July 2026, the exact release date and launch price of these ports have not been confirmed. Nevertheless, nostalgia will get the best of our wallets once the saga of the Mason and Woods lands this summer if these titles are priced right.

The remasters of Modern Warfare 1 and 2 were well received, but the lack of multiplayer mode was a real letdown. Time will tell if Iron Galaxy and Treyarch’s native port with a multiplayer focus will pay off in the long run.
