Capcom has done it. The rumor mill has been churning for months, leakers have been teasing it relentlessly, and now — with a thunderous opening to Summer Game Fest 2026 — Resident Evil: Veronica is officially real.
Capcom has announced the long-awaited remake of the beloved 2000 survival horror classic Resident Evil: Code Veronica, unveiling it with a stunning in-engine cinematic trailer, leaving fans simultaneously speechless and screaming. Capcom chose to drop “Code” from the title, opting simply for Resident Evil: Veronica — a subtle but deliberate shift that signals this is not just a coat of paint, but a full reimagining of one of the franchise’s most iconic entries.
Claire Redfield is Back
The trailer opens in Paris, following protagonist Claire Redfield as she searches for her missing brother. The game features a first-person perspective option, mirroring the dual-camera system introduced in Resident Evil Requiem.

Resident Evil: Veronica tells the story of Claire’s desperate fight for survival on a remote island controlled by Umbrella — a narrative set in the same terrifying timeline as Resident Evil 3, but steeped in the psychotic legacy of the Ashford family. Their twisted experiments and dark bloodline sit at the heart of everything that goes wrong, and according to Capcom, the remake will expand on these story beats with additional character development and deeper connections to the wider Resident Evil universe.
Built From the Ground Up
While the original Code Veronica received an HD remaster back in 2011, Resident Evil: Veronica is a full remake — rebuilt from scratch using modern technology. Expect redesigned environments, reworked cutscenes, overhauled lighting, and new gameplay systems that bring the experience in line with what players expect from Capcom’s recent remake efforts.

The studio has confirmed that the narrative foundation remains faithful to the source material. However, the game will include expanded sections and new story content, with speculation already running high about what was cut from the original that might now be restored.
Resident Evil: Veronica is currently in development, slated for a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
