When you’re looking at modern RTS, you see a bunch of simplified mechanics with none of the tedious head-banging that you needed to do for the age-old stuff. That’s fun, and yet not so fun – it feels like taking the soul out of the game just to cater to a more modern audience. Well, Dawn of War just woke up and decided to say “Fuck it! I’m bringing the firepower!” and came up with a brand new entry into the franchise that promises to be THE RTS game to be excited for after centuries (only a few years since the general lull of strategy games or the disastrous launch of Dawn of War 3). Yeah, Dawn of War 4 is officially a thing and was announced during Gamescom 2025. A trailer was shown during the opening night, and the game had a beta build available in the Deep Silver booths for people to try out the game.
Dawn of War 4 is being developed by KING Art, the developers behind the hit title Iron Harvest. Iron Harvest managed to get a lot of things right (except maybe the story itself), and one of the key things included the giant mechs fighting and interacting with one another on a giant battlefield. Iron Harvest did suffer from a lot of performance issues though, which makes a large section of the fanbase worried. Iron Harvest was a brand new game to take chances with, but Dawn of War is an established series with a long history of good games – there’s definitely a worry about how the development will be handled. Based on popular reactions of people who have played the beta build at Gamescom, it is being claimed to be the Dawn of War 3 which never was (essentially a shot at making Dawn of War 3 a playable game). One thing that most people reported as good is the mech-on-mech combat, which is an improvement from Dawn of War 3.
A Steam page for the game is already up for players to wishlist and eagerly follow its developer diaries (or post fan theories in its community section). Dawn of War 4 does not have an official release date as of yet. Being a AAA game, there’s still some time left before the game actually comes out – I’m predicting late 2026 or early 2027 as a likely launch window for it. There’s still some time to see the Blood Ravens in action again, facing off the Necrons, the Orks and the Adepticus Mechanicus. The lack of the Eldar, the Tau (yet again) or the Tyranids is a huge turn down, but seeing a mech-based race in action would definitely be interesting (now that you’ve already seen a fully organic race in action in a past few titles). Considering the launch of Iron Harvest on consoles, there’s a strong chance that Dawn of War 4 might be making its way to the PlayStation and Xbox eventually, though these are only rumors and yet remain unconfirmed.
