At a time where arcade cabinets have become a thing of the past and are limited to the game rooms of dedicated enthusiasts, an indie dev has come forward and literally built an arcade for his upcoming game. This passionate developer is none other than the Finland-based Horsefly Games’ Juho Kuorikoski.
Juho has built an arcade cabinet from scratch for his latest game Stratogun using DIY methods. Built using plywood and based on the old Taito design and running on BazziteOS, the arcade cabinet screams old-school in all its glory! Fitting for a game described as “a modern love letter to arcade classics of the 80s.” It wasn’t all smooth sailing, however. According to Juho, “The biggest hurdle I faced with the project was the fact that getting actual twin stick controls to work on Steam was a much harder task than I anticipated. Company called Pacto Tech, fortunately had a control board that the computer recognized as an Xbox One controller. I connected arcade sticks and buttons to the beast and I was pretty much set.”
While it’s super cool that Stratogun arcade is a thing, us mere mortals do not need to get hold of an arcade cabinet to check out the game. As of writing this article, Steam Next Fest is making the rounds once again and Stratogun has a demo that you can check out using the link here.
