Team17 and Observer Interactive have unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming creature-collecting metroidvania, Rover’s Tale, offering a closer look at the game’s lore and narrative premise. The title was previously known as Good Boy, though the newly revealed name better reflects the story’s focus on loyal canine explorers.
Set in the strange yet familiar world of Terra II, the game invites players to traverse a range of diverse biomes. From dense forests and foul-smelling swamps to snow-covered mountain peaks, each environment presents unique challenges that require new upgrades and creature abilities to overcome.
Central to the game’s story is the LAIKA Programme, a scientific initiative that grants aging dogs a second life. Through this program, the consciousness of old dogs is transferred into robotic “Rovers,” transforming them into resilient space explorers capable of surviving on distant worlds.
The narrative begins when an anomaly is detected on a remote planet, prompting a human explorer to investigate. After a rough landing, the explorer’s distress beacon activates a dormant LAIKA Rover nearby. Together, the pair set out to explore the planet’s living ecosystems, meet other Rovers scattered across the world, and uncover the secrets behind the mysterious origins of Terra II.
