In an announcement that may come across as a surprise to many, Rockstar Games announced via their socials that Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on May 26, 2026. As one might expect, Rockstar is taking the extra time to add a layer of polish and shine to the game.
While the highly anticipated GTA VI never had a solid release date, the original trailer touted that the open-world crime drama would release in 2025. While many fans speculated a delay due to the lack of communication from Rockstar, publisher Take-Two’s release schedule did mention that GTA VI would release in 2025.
Judging by Take Two’s busy release schedule this year (Mafia: The Old Country, Borderlands 4), this delay is probably for the best.
If you ask us, we already have a few solid GOTY contenders like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Split Fiction, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that we are perfectly content to wait one more year to experience Rockstar’s magnum opus.
That being said, it would have been cool if Rockstar accompanied the news of the delay with trailer #2 or even a few screenshots. Alas, the wait continues.
